Violence against women and girls is one of the most frequent human rights violations in the world. It knows no social, economic or national borders. Globally, it is estimated that one in three women will experience physical or sexual abuse in her lifetime.
Gender-based violence undermines the health, dignity, safety, and autonomy of its victims, but continues to be enveloped in a culture of silence. Victims of violence can suffer consequences for their sexual and reproductive health, including forced and unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, traumatic fistulas, sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, and even death.
GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE (GBV) PROJECT
In 2019, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Koyamada International Foundation (KIF) to empower women and prevent GBV through a global initiative. It visions a world where women and girls are free from all forms of violence. Its mission is to build the self-agency of women and girls for prevention and response to all forms of GBV through holistic martial arts training.
