Guardian Girls Kenya is a national program dedicated to the prevention and response to gender-based violence, empowering Kenyan girls and women to protect themselves from all forms of violence through sports and martial arts. The program seeks to foster resilience, self-confidence, and practical self-defense skills, equipping participants to navigate and respond to potentially dangerous situations with strength and confidence.

At the global level, Guardian Girls International (GGI) oversees all Guardian Girls programs and projects, providing a coordinated, impactful response to gender-based violence worldwide. GGI partners with a wide range of organizations, including United Nations agencies, international sports federations, governments, NGOs, and corporations, to develop and implement tailored programs that meet local needs while upholding global standards of empowerment and protection.

Gender-based violence remains one of the most pervasive human rights violations globally, affecting women and girls of all ages and transcending social, economic, and national boundaries. It is estimated that one in three women worldwide will experience physical or sexual violence in her lifetime. This violence not only erodes the health, dignity, safety, and autonomy of its victims but often exists within a culture of silence.

The consequences for victims can be severe and long-lasting, impacting sexual and reproductive health and leading to issues such as unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions, traumatic injuries, sexually transmitted infections (including HIV), and, in extreme cases, even death. Guardian Girls Kenya seeks to break this cycle by providing the tools and support necessary for girls and women to protect themselves and reclaim their right to a life free from violence.

GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE (GBV) PROJECT

In 2019, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Koyamada International Foundation (KIF) to empower women and prevent GBV through a global initiative. It visions a world where women and girls are free from all forms of violence. Its mission is to build the self-agency of women and girls for prevention and response to all forms of GBV through holistic martial arts training.
